Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, and photographs of Kay, including files of correspondence from his student years to the time of his death, primarily on professional and academic matters; geological field notebooks, 1923-1975; manuscript materials for his book, STRATIGRAPHY AND LIFE HISTORY (written with E.H. Colbert); files on the Gander Conference, 1964-1970; manuscripts and typescripts of various lectures and articles; syllabi and various other academic files; and photographs and illustrations, primarily those used in STRATIGRAPHY AND LIFE HISTORY.

The collection centers on Zierold's book, LITTLE CHARLEY ROSS, 1967, a re-examination of the first American kidnapping for ransom. Included are notes, research materials, illustrations, typescripts, proofs, reviews, and correspondence. Zierold has added the drafts, manuscripts, and typescripts of several of his plays and writings about Hollywood, including THE CHILD STARS, BABY MADGE, SWINGING FROM A CHANDELIER, DEATH IN HOLLYWOOD, THREE WOMEN IN BLACK, THE SEX GODDESSES, and NOT BEFORE BREAKFAST.

The collection is divided into two categories: her cartoons, and her children's books. The cartoon collection contains original art, process sketches, sketchbooks, etc. The children's book collection contains her manuscripts, sketches, production materials, and more. The collection also includes her portfolio from Jerusalem's Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, ca. 1970s.

The collection consists of (1) A group of early materials written between 1903-1905, before Rank met Freud. This includes 4 daybooks, a notebook of dreams, a notebook of poems, the manuscripts of "Der Kunstler;" (2) Correspondence between Freud and Rank between 1906-1924, including the controversy over THE TRAUMA OF BIRTH. 40 a.l.s. from Freud and typed copies from Rank, with a few letters to and from Ferenczi (3) Copies and some originals of the circular letters by members of the inner circle, Ernest Jones, Abraham, Eitingon, Ferenczi, Rank and Freud, 1920-1924 (4) Original handwritten manuscripts, typed copies, notes and corrections of Rank's major works (5) Rank's own listing and comments on his writings and publications (to 1930) (6) Rank's published works--20 titles.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, and newspapers. These include over four hundred letters to Alexander, as well as miscellaneous letters and telegrams; some of his manuscripts and notes; business records of his law firm; military documents of the western divisions of the Confederate Army; copybooks and letter books; and complete and partial newspapers and clippings from the various Southern newspapers (in particular THE SAVANNAH REPUBLICAN, the DAILY DISPATCH of Richmond, and the ADVERTISER AND REGISTER of Mobile) which carried Alexander's dispatches.

Personal and professional papers including correspondence, manuscripts, documents, diaries, journals, photographs, and printed materials relating to his teaching at various universities, his literary studies and writings, and his professional activities in such organizations as the Moder Language Association and P.E.N. His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. The printed materials include ephemera, books, and offprints by Halsband and books by other authors inscribed to him. There is a watercolor portrait of Halsband by Stephen Andrews, London, ca. 1966.

Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, documents, photographs, audio tapes, and printed materials of Rochelle Owens. Included are: correspondence with other writers, publishers, and friends; scripts and production files of her plays; and, manuscripts and drafts of her books and other poems, along with other related materials. This collection of material by and about L. Frank Baum is an adjunct to the collection of first editions of Baum's writings made by Roland O. Baughman over a period of many years. An important part of the collection consists of the correspondence and papers related to the exhibition of L. Frank Baum. This exhibition was mounted at the Columbia University Libraries in 1956 to mark the centenary of Baum's birth. Baum manuscripts, original drawings by illustrators of Baum books, and issues of periodicals in which Baum pieces appeared constitute the core of the collection

Correspondence, manuscript, and drawings relating to English and American literature of the 19th and early 20th centuries collected by Solton (1896-1961) and Julia (-1984) Engel. Ten letters and four manuscripts of poems by Rudyard Kipling form the largest unit within the collection. Prominent among the other items are the manuscript of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Mock Trial" and two Walt Whitman letters, a copy of R. W. Emerson's famous "Leaves of Grass" letter in Whitman's hand and Whitman's letter to Conway regarding the Emerson letter. Also included is a letter from James Fenimore Cooper to Mary Rutherfurd Clarkson Jay, wife of Peter Augustus Jay. Thirty-one of the drawings in the collection are by William Wallace Denslow and John Rae Neill and represent illustrations done for various works by L. Frank Baum. There are also two drawings of Gelett Burgess, one ot "The Goop" and the other of "The Purple Cow." Castings of the obverse and reverse of the bronze Kipling medallion commissioned by Engel in 1953 from Julio Kilenyi are stored in 2 oversize boxes. Most of the items in this collection relate to a collection of first editions which was also presented to the Libraries by Mr. and Mrs. Engel.
