5000 itemsThese papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, subject files, photographs, and printed materials. Most of the collection concerns Bashmakov's ethnographical work in France in the 1920s and 1930s, including correspondence, many manuscripts, lectures, notes, and copies of his publications. Subject files concern emigre monarchism in France, and the death of Father Georgiĭ Spasskiĭ. There are copies of the Russian version of Bashmakova's memoirs, "Perezhitoe." Cataloged correspondence in the collection consists of letters from Petr Krasnov and one or two items each from Henry Field, Evgeniĭ Miller, Petr Wrangel, and Boris Zaĭt︠s︡ev. There are also photographic slides representing ethnographical types from the Caucasus.

6.3 Linear FeetCorrespondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials of Surguchev. The papers almost exclusively concern Surguchev's life in emigration; he lived in France from the 1920s onward. Correspondents include Ivan Bunin, Nikolaĭ Evreĭnov, Aleksandr Kuprin, and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko. There are manuscripts of plays, stories, and film scenarios by Surguchev in Russian, French, and English. Documents include literary contracts, and one contract signed by Sergeĭ Lifar ́concerning a film scenario by Surguchev and Ivan Lukash. There are photographs of Surguchev and of scenes from his plays, and a subject file on the Russian Chamber Theater (Kamernyĭ Teatr) in Prague, 1922-23. Among the printed materials are many clippings of pieces by Surguchev, and his play "Igra" and pamphlet "Bolśheviki v Stavropole."

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, caricatures, and materials relating to a number of Russian émigré organizations. The materials relating to émigré organizations include correspondence, financial records, and mimeographed textbooks prepared by the professors of the Russkii iuridicheskii fakul'tet v Prage (Russian Juridical Institute in Prague), and correspondence and printed materials of the Soiuz ob"edinenii russkikh okonchivshikh vysshie uchebnye asvedeniia (OROVUZ; Union of Societies of Russians Who Have Graduated from Institutes of Higher Education), which Savchenko headed. In addition, there are materials relating to other émigré groups in Europe and the United States with which Savchenko was associated.

Ialyshev's memoirs, which deal with his student days in Kyiv at the turn of the century, including unrest in 1900, and with the Russo-Japanese war. There are also a manuscript by A. A. Vishnevskii on the "Ukrainian question" and manuscript of unidentified author on R.O.S. Subject files include records of various emigre organizations, including Bratstvo Sv. Nikolaia in Constantinople, of which Ialyshev was the president; Obʺedinenie intellektual'nykh russkikh truzhennikov vo Frantsii; Obʺedinenie XVIII-go Armeiskago Korpusa, Rossiiskii zarubezhnyi s"ezd; "Victor Hugo" refugee camp near Marseilles; Union des Anciens Combattants Russes and Union Patriotique des Exiles Politiques Russes oi Marseille. Printed material include brochure and periodicals.

The correspondence includes numerous letters by Aleksandr Konovalov and Anatoliĭ Velʹmin and one letter by Grand Duke Dimitriĭ Pavlovich. Among manuscripts are a short autobiography by Vakar, and the originals and copies of his diary from 1938-1940. The diary concerns such topics as emigre politics in Paris in this period. There are numerous clippings of newspaper pieces by Vakar. In addition, there is a long obituary of Vakar by Paul Friedrich.
Ol'ga Ivanovna Subbotina Papers, 1846-1954
6.5 linear feetCorrespondence, documents, diaries and notebooks, photographs, printed materials and memorabilia of Olga Ivanovna Subbotina (or Soubbotine, 1886-1963), her grandmother, Mariia Sergeevna Benckendorff, and her sister, Elizaveta Ivanovna Taube (Mrs. Harold Roberts). The correspondence includes letters and telegrams of Aleksandra Fedorovna, Empress of Russia. The letters of Mariia Benckendorff's son, Vasilii Dolgorukov, provide information about the Imperial family in 1916-1918. There are diaries and notebooks of Marii Benckendorff, Pavel Konstantinovich Benkendorff, Ol'ga Subbotina and Elizaveta Taube. Among the documents are IDs, birth and marriage certificates, passports, wills, etc. Financial and legal documents include a file entitled "Claim against the National Bank of New York", which contains material about the exile of the Imperial family to Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg, as do other folders. There are photographs of immediate and extended family members, Nicholas II and his family and European royalty. There is also family and Alexandra Fedorovna's, Empress of Russia, memorabilia.
