Files of Hamlin, dealing with the American Library Association's (ALA) aid to Italian libraries to help them restore book manuscripts and other library materials after the 1966 floods in Florence. These papers contain correspondence with American and Italian librarians and related memoranda and reports. In addition there are photographs, clippings, pamphlets, monographs, and serials documenting the flood, its aftermath and restoration efforts. The chief correspondents are Paul N. Minutes, correspondence, annual reports, press releases, financial records, photographs, memorabilia, audiovisual, digital and printed materials document the philanthropic activities and administration of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The collection is actively growing, primarily through regular document transfers from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Andrew Carnegie's biographical information and personal philanthropic activity can be found in Series VII. In addition, his pre-1911 gifts, most notably his donations for libraries and church organs, can be found on microfilm (Series II), in the Home Trust Company Records (VI.A), and Financial Record Books (I.C.1). Grant files (Series III.A), which comprise the bulk of the collection) provide information on projects and institutions founded, endowed or supported by the Corporation. The Special Initiatives series (Series IV) contains the records of task forces, commissions and councils, formed by the Corporation mostly during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to address specific issues. The Corporation's records include those of other Carnegie philanthropic organizations (Series VI), including the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Home Trust Company, both of which shared staff, officers, and office space with the Corporation for a period of time.

There is correspondence with Australian librarians, government officials, and U.S. information services officers; manuscripts of her articles, addresses, reports and procedural manuals; Australian library publications and other printed materails. In addition there are some general correspondence files and a few files relating to Wessells' career in the United States, including the New York Public Library, the Victory Book Campaign (1943), the American Library Association and its International Relations Round Table. The cataloged correspondence consists of one letter each from Louis Adamic, Pearl S. Buck, Henry Seidel Canby, Marion Ponsonby Gause Canby, and Daniel A. Poling.

Correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, and related printed materials from the office files of Dalton, reflecting his professional activities in the fields of American and international librarianship from 1940 to 1976. The major areas of interest are library education, especially foreign students; the Dewey Decimal Classification and its publisher, the Forest Press; the American Library Association, particularly its Reference Service Division's Bibliography Committee; the Council of National Library Associations; Franklin Book Programs; the International Federation of Library Associations; the National Book Committee; and WHO'S WHO IN LIBRARY SERVICE.

Correspondence, reports, lists, memoranda, photographs, and printed materials on the history of the wartime activities of the Army Library Service, compiled by Jamieson for his books EDITIONS FOR THE ARMED SERVICES, INC.; A HISTORY TOGETHER WITH THE COMPLETE LIST OF 1324 BOOKS PUBLISHED FOR AMERICAN ARMED FORCES OVERSEAS (New York, 1948), and BOOKS FOR THE ARMY; THE ARMY LIBRARY SERVICE IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR (New York, Columbia University Press, 1950). Correspondents include Robert Cutler, Melvyn Douglas, Lewis Galantière, Dashiell Hammett, and Harry Scherman.

Correspondence and reports of the Joint Committee on Importations of Thomas Paul Fleming (1907-), Medical Librarian, Columbia University, 1927-1972. The major correspondents are Thomas P. Fleming, Representative of the Medical Library Association, Harry M. Lydenberg, Chairman and Director of the New York Public Library, and Keyes D. Metcalf, Executive Board Member and Director of Harvard University Library.

Correspondence, memoranda, notes, course materials, and printed materials. The course materials consist primarily of notes, bibliographies, syllabi, and related items for the classes Hutchins taught on reference, government documents, and bibliography. The papers also deal with the library school curriculum, several committees of the American Library Association, and also of the Association of American Library Schools.
