The collection consists of the editorial and production archives of Vanguard Press: correspondence, manuscripts, contracts, memoranda, galley proofs, photographs, clippings, and printed materials. The correspondence and editorial files contain a wealth of detailed information about individual authors and the growth and development of the Press. Files of political correspondence and papers of Tanner. The majority of the correspondence deals with city and state elections. The correspondents include Charles Evans Hughes, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Fiorello La Guardia. Also, a collection of eighteen scrapbooks.

Correspondence, notes, and writings of Sayre, including materials pertaining to his work for various organizations, public and private, concerned with problems in public administration. There is also a subject file containing notes and other materials gathered by Sayre for use in publications and lectures. The correspondence is extensive, and consists of routine business correspondence, occasional letters (uncataloged) from such persons as William Ronan and other city and university officials, and files of correspondence with members of the family of Senator Robert M. La Follette. Catalogued correspondents include Chester Bowles, Dumas Malone, Bennett Cerf, and Fiorello La Guardia.

Correspondence, documents, and printed material relating to Rosenman's activities as a housing analyst. Correspondents include Fiorello La Guardia, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bernard Baruch, and Herbert Lehman. Also, printed copies of Rosenman's many articles on housing.

The collection is primarily correspondence files, both personal and professional, along with book reviews, awards and diplomas, letters of condolence on his death, clippings, and correspondence, manuscripts and printed materials relating to THE STREAM OF HISTORY. The correspondence relates specifically to the third edition. The manuscripts are typed and holograph inserts for the third edition and possibly for the second edition as well. Among the manuscripts are twenty-two notebooks containing holograph notes and drafts of chapters. The printed material consists of one copy of THE STREAM OF HISTORY, 1934 edition.

Correspondence, manuscripts, subject files, biographical material, photograph, personal property, audio cassettes, and memorabilia. Among the cataloged correspondence are letters from John Haynes Holmes, Fiorello Henry LaGuardia, Edith Kermit Roosevelt, and Eleanor Roosevelt. The arranged correspondence is filed chronologically with annual folders for materials from Isaacs' terms as Manhattan Borough President and bulk date folders for general, personal and topical correspondence. There is a file of correspondence with Mrs. Edith S. Isaacs concerning her biography of Stanley M. Isaacs"Love Affair with a City." Also includes manuscripts by her, and other material relating to her and her charitable work. Addresses, essays and lectures are included in the manuscript files. Among the subject files are campaign materials for the City Councilman elections, 1937, 1941, 1957, etc. There is a brochure from the Dedication of the East River Drive (June 18, 1940) and the New Municipal Asphalt Plant (May 24, 1944), as well as newspaper clippings and other printed political pamphlets and reports. The biographical materials include facts for speakers, personal legal papers and memorial statements. There are three photographs. Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, reports, and printed material of Hughes. The papers cover primarily the period following Hughes' defeat in the 1916 presidential election up to his appointment as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1930; in most files there is a gap from March 1921 to March 1925, when Hughes was Secretary of State. Some materials relate to the law firm of Hughes, Rounds, Schurman and Dwight (later Hughes, Schurman and Dwight), but primarily concern Hughes' philanthropies and activities in professional organizations. Among these latter associations are the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Legal Aid Society, and the New York State Bar Association. Records for a number of Hughes' cultural, educational, and international philanthropies, such as the Armenian National Union of America and the George Washington Memorial Association, are included as are materials on his participation in the 1918-1924 aircraft investigation, the Sixth Pan American Conference (Havana, 1928), and the Permanent Court of International Justice, the Hague.
