The collection includes copies of official communiques sent and received by the Russian Imperial Embassy in London for the period 1886-1890 and 1919-1922; copies of reports forwarded by E.V. Sablin to the Council of Ambassadors in Paris, for the period 1922-1937; correspondence grouped around specific subjects; "case files" containing letters from and on behalf of individual Russian emigres wishing to enter Great Britain or to adjust their immigrant status; and letters received by E.V. Sablin and his wife Nadezhda Ivanovna from various persons, together with carbon copies of their replies. The most voluminous correspondence is between E.V. Sablin and V.A. Maklakov, V. Dobuzhinskiĭ, Joseph P. Kennedy, Aleksandr F. Kerenskiĭ, Vladimir V. Nabokov, Fedor I. Shali︠a︡pin, Petr and Gleb Struve, Adri︠a︡na V. Trykova-Williams etc. The remainder of the collection consists of manuscripts of articles and speeches both by Sablin and by others; public statements issued by Sablin in mimeograph form; miscellaneous mimeo material; clippings from both the Russian emigre press and British and French newspapers of articles by and about Sablin; as well as miscellaneous clippings, books, booklets, leaflets, performance programs, newsletters, Russian language newspapers published in England, photographs and several drawings and watercolor sketches.

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, subject files, newspaper clippings, printed materials, photographs, and drawings. Most of the correspondence concerns Bilyi's activities as Ataman, and the journal "Kazak"; other correspondence is personal or relates to the activities of anti-Communist groups (such as the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations - ABN). The manuscripts include articles, reminiscences, drafts of appeals and proclamations, and speeches mostly concerning the Cossack movement, Cossack history, and the anti-Communist movement. The documents mostly concern KNOD and related organizations for the period ca.1955-1970; a few relate to the Cossacks in 1919-1945. The subject files contain newspaper clippings, printed materials, notes, and correspondence relating to KNOD, ABN, "Kazak", Ukrainian-Cossack relations, and the Vlasov Movement. The newspaper clippings are mostly from Russian and Ukrainian emigre publications. Printed materials include a set of "Kazak" and ephemera of KNOD, ABN, and similar organizations. There are a few photographs showing Bilyi in Cossack dress and also various Cossack emigre organization activities. The paintings and drawings include portraits of Bilyi and his wife, Tatiana Iurievna Bilyi, in national dress (his Cossack, hers Czech), other Cossack leaders, Cossack heraldry, and a map of "Cossackia."

Correspondence, manuscripts, financial records, subject files, printed material and watercolors of Volkonskai︠a︡. The bulk of the collection consists of letters to Volkonskai︠a︡, who resided most of her life in France. The letters are from friends and relatives and span the period from 1926 to 1959. There are also a small number of letters to and from Vladimir Luginin from the 1860's and 1890's. Among the manuscripts are the memoirs of both Marii︠a︡ Volkonskai︠a︡ and of Vladimir Luginin, as well as manuscript copies of the latter's scientific articles and research notes. The subject files contain materials on provincial parish-based self help societies at the turn of the century and on scientific problems concerning weights and measures, and the mercury thermometer. There are also watercolor sketches by Marii︠a︡ Volkonskai︠a︡.

Her finished portraits on ivory are cataloged separately for the Art Collection (q.v.). The collection includes her correspondence with friends and clients; manuscripts of her articles, lectures, and many unpublished autobiographical drafts; pencil sketches, watercolor drafts, and photoprints of her portraits on ivory; photographs of her family amd travels; clippings and other printed materials; and three scrapbooks of clippings and memorabilia. There is cataloged correspondence from Arnold Genthe, S.I. Hayakawa, Karen Horney, Burges Johnson, Dwight Macdonald, and Alice B. Toklas, etc.

Personal and professional papers including correspondence, manuscripts, documents, diaries, journals, photographs, and printed materials relating to his teaching at various universities, his literary studies and writings, and his professional activities in such organizations as the Moder Language Association and P.E.N. His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. The printed materials include ephemera, books, and offprints by Halsband and books by other authors inscribed to him. There is a watercolor portrait of Halsband by Stephen Andrews, London, ca. 1966.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, artwork, objects, and printed material. Included among the list of 37 cataloged correspondents are: Vera Brittain, Edward Gordon Craig, Clarence Darrow, Havelock Ellis, Augustus John, Emmeline Pankhurst, Edward Steichen, Gertrude Stein, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Sybil Thorndike, Alec Waugh, and H. G. Wells. The cataloged manuscripts include a poem by Witter Bynner entitled "Hay Wagon." There is a large selection of Stephen's writings (poetry, novels, plays, articles, biographies, memoirs) including drafts of a proposed biography of his father, a bound volume of his own memoirs, numerous notebooks, and "Mount Joy," a description of life on Dominica. His photographs and paintings are well represented, with 6 albums of photographs and 2 boxes & 1 folder of approximately 200 paintings and sketches. The printed material includes works by Stephen, his father and his mother.

Correspondence, manuscripts, drawings, watercolors, sketches, proofs, and printed materials. The collection includes original watercolor, pen-and-ink, and pencil illustrations for fifty books by various authors, beginning with Georges Duplaix's TOPSY TURVY CIRCUS (1940), and continuing with Golden Book's Scuffy the Tugboat & Tootles the Train by Gertrude Crampton; Duplaix's The Merry Shipwreck; Kipling's The Jungle Books, and the artist's dummy for The Wheel on the Chimney by Margaret Wise Brown, a Caldecott Honor book. Also included are illustrations for nineteen books by Gergely; advertising and commercial art of the 1940s, political cartoons and carricatures from the 1930s 1940s in Europe and America; designs for greeting cards, posters, and record jackets; and eighteen watercolor drawings for NEW YORKER covers, many of which were published in the 1940s. A selection of manuscripts, correspondence, and printed materials is also included in the collection.

The Yu Feng Tse papers (于鳳至檔案) document her family life and that of her spouse, the Young Marshall Zhang Xueliang, who was under house arrest since 1937, first in mainland China and later in Taiwan until he was free in 1992. The materials primarily consist of correspondence, writings, printed materials, photographs, as well as memorabilia, dating from 1928 to 2011, with its bulk dating from 1943 to 1996. The materials show the relationship between Yu Feng Tse who was in the United States and Zhang Xueliang who was in Taiwan at the time.
