Correspondence, manuscripts, and memorabilia of the American poet, Hart Crane, range in date over most of his active life. This collection includes over 500 letters written by Crane to members of his family and close friends and received by him from his family and contemporary authors including Eugene O'Neill, Sherwood Anderson, T. S. Eliot, Alfred Stieglitz, Waldo Frank, and Allan Tate. Among these is a group of letters written to Mrs. Crane upon Crane's death. There is correspondence and documents relating to his books, THE BRIDGE, WHITE BUILDINGS, and THE COLLECTED POEMS. Also present are most of the original manuscripts of Crane's major works ("The Bridge" "White Buildings" "West Indies Poems" etc) with corrections and additions in Crane's hand. Included here are a number of drafts of poems of his earlier period. The is also a copy of the 16mm motion picture "In Search of Hart Crane."

Collection contains watercolor renderings, sketches, technical drawings (ground plans, elevations and details), photographs, glass plate and acetate negatives, scrapbooks, set models and some related papers covering Urban's career in Vienna and New York as an architect, set designer, decorator and illustrator. There is a thorough representation of his New York career including his set designs for Florenz Ziegfeld (1915-1932) and the Metropolitan Opera (1917-1933). The collection also contains information on Urban's work for William Randolph Hearst as art director for Cosmopolitan Studios, his exhibitions including his 1921 Wiener Werkstätte store, and his many architectural projects. Biographical information and research gathered by Richard Cole and Randolph Carter including contributions from his daughter,Gretl Urban, and biographical notes and some letters from his widow, Mary Urban, are also present.

There is cataloged correspondence from Arnold Genthe, S.I. Hayakawa, Karen Horney, Burges Johnson, Dwight Macdonald, and Alice B. Toklas, etc.

Included are about 800 letters from outstanding literary figures of Mr. Conway's lifetime, manuscripts of his sermons, lectures and other writings and photostats of Conway material in Dickinson College Library. Personal and professional papers including correspondence, manuscripts, documents, diaries, journals, photographs, and printed materials relating to his teaching at various universities, his literary studies and writings, and his professional activities in such organizations as the Moder Language Association and P.E.N. His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, art work, and printed material of and concerning Ronald Firbank. Included are nine letters from poet Alfred Douglas, seven from artist Albert Rutherston, four from Rollo Talboys, then schoolmaster at Wellington College, and forty-two letters from Firbank himself to his publisher Grant Richards and his manager George Wiggins. There are four letters from his mother, Lady Harriet, to the publisher and one letter from his father, Joseph Thomas Firbank, while serving in the House of Commons, 1897. Manuscripts include drafts and notebooks for his works: THE ARTIFICIAL PRINCESS, A DISCIPLINE FROM THE COUNTRY, THE RYTHUM, PRANCING N***, THE PRINCESS ZOUBAROFF, TRUE LOVE, and VAINGLORY. There is an inscribed photograph of Firbank from 1904; a pen-and-ink drawing by C.R.W. Nevinson used as a book illustration; and Albert Rutherston's watercolor drawing for the dust jacket of Firbank's novel, INCLINATIONS (London, 1916). There are also cataloged correspondence and manuscripts collected collected by Ifan Kyrle Fletcher for his book, RONALD FIRBANK; A MEMOIR.. (London, 1930).

Included among the list of 37 cataloged correspondents are: Vera Brittain, Edward Gordon Craig, Clarence Darrow, Havelock Ellis, Augustus John, Emmeline Pankhurst, Edward Steichen, Gertrude Stein, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Sybil Thorndike, Alec Waugh, and H. G. Wells. The cataloged manuscripts include a poem by Witter Bynner entitled "Hay Wagon." There is a large selection of Stephen's writings (poetry, novels, plays, articles, biographies, memoirs) including drafts of a proposed biography of his father, a bound volume of his own memoirs, numerous notebooks, and "Mount Joy," a description of life on Dominica. His photographs and paintings are well represented, with 6 albums of photographs and 2 boxes & 1 folder of approximately 200 paintings and sketches. The printed material includes works by Stephen, his father and his mother.
