The collection consists primarily of Gasler's 26-part manuscript memoirs (ca. 1,350 p.), which discuss his family, his military career, World War I, the emigration in France, and interwar Latvia. The collection also includes Gasler's service record and passport, several postcards, and several clippings.

Included are Cerf's personal correspondence files, 1929-1945, and the diaries and scrapbooks which he maintained from his school days throughout his active career. The diaries, in date-book format, contain terse notes on Cerf's meetings with authors and friends, on his travels and publishing activities; the scrapbooks contain correspondence and photographs, as well as memorabilia and printed items, and were annotated by Cerf and his wife, Phyllis Fraser Cerf Wagner. Also in the collection are manuscripts and proofs for Cerf's books including "The Laugh's on Me""Treasury of Atrocious Puns""The Sound of Laughter""Stories to Make You Feel Better", and "At Random: the Reminiscences of Bennett Cerf", which was edited by Phyllis Cerf Wagner and Albert Erskine, 1977. The papers also include condolence letters written at the time of Cerf's death, photographs and photo albums,certificates and awards, and miscellaneous printed material, including Random House and Modern Library catalogues. Correspondence, documents, and financial records relating almost entirely to the last ten years of Cora Crane's life, dealing largely with the operation of her brothel, The Court, and touching on her last marriage to Hammond P. McNeil and to her work on the invention of a new army canteen. Much of the collection consists of bills, receipts, insurance policies, cancelled checks, and other fairly routine financial papers. Also, a Harold Frederic manuscript and the last known signature of Stephen Crane.

(The American Society for Russian Relief, Inc.), 1940-1954. There are some materials on the Institute of Pacific Relations and its investigation by the McCarran Committee in the early 1950s. Black, Henry Sloane Coffin, Andrei Gromyko, John Hersey, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Arnold Toynbee.

The collection includes three documents relating to Safonova (nʹee Bystrova): a 1912 certificate from the Moskovskoe dvori︠a︡nskoe deputatskoe sobranie; a 1913 diploma from the Rizhskai︠a︣ zhenskai︠a︡ gimnazii︠a︡; and a teaching certificate dated 1915, Riga. Also included are a passport for Safonova's father, Vladimir N. Bystrova and a service record for Safonova's husband, Matveĭ S. Safonov.

While most of the correspondence is personal, some of it relates to I︠U︡liĭ Vagner's scientific research. There is a manuscript by an unknown person about Ivan D. Sytin, and a number of notebooks with entries by Evgenii︠a︡ Vagner. The documents, which include passports, travel documents, service records, and diplomas of both Evgenii︠a︡ Vagner and her husband, mainly concern their lives in emigration in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and, at the end of World War II, in Germany. There are three folders of photographs, a subject file concerning Evgenii︠a︡ Vagner's post cards and copies of two editions of a book by I︠U︡liĭ Vagner"Nachalńyĭ kurs prirodovedenii︠a︡" Kiev, 1908, and Belgrade, 1924.

In addition to personal correspondence and documents, there are files of Amnesty International, the human rights organization of which Morris was American Section chairman. Also included are notes and manuscripts of Morris' studies in Japanese literature and culture, particularly relating to his many books and translations. His interest in puzzles, and compilations of several volumes of them, are reflected in notes and correspondence. The collection includes Pillionnel's routine correspondence, manuscripts in French and English of his poems, plays and prose works, many of which are unpublished, and his "Journal Intime" which covers the period 1932-1972. Included is an oil portrait of Pillionnel by his friend Peter Hayward. One document folder contains Pillionnel family records (birth certificates, baptismal records, passports) from the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries

The collection includes cataloged photographs (Nicholas II, Grigoriĭ Semenov) and arranged correspondence to both Semchevskiĭ and his wife. The main item in the collection is Semchevskiĭ's eight-part memoir which describes his childhood in Tbilisi, his service as kamer-pazh (page of the bedchamber) to Nicholas II and his military career in World War I and the Civil War. It also describes Semchevskiĭ's life as an emigre in Berlin, where he ran a bookstore, in England, where he manufactured motorcycles, in Austria, where he worked at an oil refinery, and eventually in the United States. There are also documents (such as military records and passports) and a photograph of Semchevskiĭ and his wife taken in 1921.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, printed materials, and coins of Marii︠a︡ A. Svi︠a︡topolk-Mirskai︠a︡ and her son Nikolaĭ V. Svi︠a︡topolk Mirskiĭ. The correspondence is primarily from members of the Imperial family (such as Grand Duke Nikolaĭ Nikolaevich and dowager Empress Marii︠a︡ Fedorovna) to Marii︠a︡ Svi︠a︡topolk-Mirskai︠a︡. Most of it dates from the 1920's and 1930's and much of it is mounted in scrapbooks. The manuscripts include Basil Strandman's "Balkan Reminiscences." Among the documents are diplomas, certificates, passports and Imperial decrees dating back to 1832. The photographs include a photograph of Metropolitan Evlogiĭ and several dozen copies of Imperial family photographs. There are also many photographs of paintings, icons and architecture. The subject files consist of materials relating to the Notbek family, the Mariĭnskoe Sestrichestvo (to which Marii︠a︡ Svi︠a︡topolk-Mirskai︠a︡ belonged), and the Iverskai︠a︡ Church in Belgrade. Among the printed materials are 12 issues of "Khudozhestvennye Sokrovishcha Rossii" (1901)"Mʹemoires du regne de Catherine.."(Amsterdam, 1729), and "Thʹeâtre de l'Hermitage de Catherine II.."(Paris, 1799?).

The collection consiste of correspondence, memoranda, reports, bulletins, clippings, photographs, awards, and printed material. The files, arranged by genre and topic and reflect her philanthropic and legislative work in the areas of health, specifically cancer, heart disease, and mental health. Her civic and legislative work is covered in detail, as well as her private interests and activities.

The collection includes two diaries of his American tour (one is made up of his rough travel notes, the other is in edited form for circulation), a memorial volume of manuscripts about his wife (Ann Loxley Rhees) prepared by his daughter Eliza (Mrs. Nicholas Murray), and 1851 passport of Nicholas Murray, a letter of Thomas Chalmers Murray to his sister Mary Jones Murray Butler (the mother of Nicholas Murray Butler, President of Columbia University), correspondence between Welsh historian Gwyn A. Williams and collection donor Mary Butler Brown, an essay entitled "Morgan John Rhees and Beula" by Gwyn A. Williams, Ann Loxley Rhees's valedictory oration on graduation from Philadelphia's Ladies Academy, an address on female education ca. 1789, family obituary clippings, poems, misc. items, and a photograph of Ann Loxley Rhees. An edited version of substantial sections of the diaries of M.J. Rhees was published in John Thomas Griffith's 1910 biography and miscellany of Rhees and his family, a copy of which is included in this collection. An edited version of a previously unpublished section of the diary, from May 2nd to July 9th 1795, was published in Northwest Ohio History (vol. 80, no. 2), but it is an unreliable transcription containing many inaccuracies, according to Dr E. Wyn James of Cardiff University, who is working on a new edition of the M.J. Rhees diaries.

The collection consists of correspondence, a manuscript of the P.O.W. journal "Alibudér" in France, a subject file on the Turgenev Library, documents, picture postcards, and printed materials. Correspondence consists of letters and postcards to and from Palćhevskiĭ. There is one letter from Vladimir Burt︠s︡ev. Documents are Palćhevskiĭ's and include passports and affidavits, mostly from France. Picture postcards are primarily on historical topics. Printed materials include mainly clippings and programs. Cataloged letters are from Vladimir Burt︠s︡ev and Sergeĭ Svatikov.

Correspondence, documents, diaries and notebooks, photographs, printed materials and memorabilia of Olga Ivanovna Subbotina (or Soubbotine, 1886-1963), her grandmother, Mariia Sergeevna Benckendorff, and her sister, Elizaveta Ivanovna Taube (Mrs. Harold Roberts). The correspondence includes letters and telegrams of Aleksandra Fedorovna, Empress of Russia. The letters of Mariia Benckendorff's son, Vasilii Dolgorukov, provide information about the Imperial family in 1916-1918. There are diaries and notebooks of Marii Benckendorff, Pavel Konstantinovich Benkendorff, Ol'ga Subbotina and Elizaveta Taube. Among the documents are IDs, birth and marriage certificates, passports, wills, etc. Financial and legal documents include a file entitled "Claim against the National Bank of New York", which contains material about the exile of the Imperial family to Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg, as do other folders. There are photographs of immediate and extended family members, Nicholas II and his family and European royalty. There is also family and Alexandra Fedorovna's, Empress of Russia, memorabilia.

Personal and professional papers including correspondence, manuscripts, documents, diaries, journals, photographs, and printed materials relating to his teaching at various universities, his literary studies and writings, and his professional activities in such organizations as the Moder Language Association and P.E.N. His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. The printed materials include ephemera, books, and offprints by Halsband and books by other authors inscribed to him. There is a watercolor portrait of Halsband by Stephen Andrews, London, ca. 1966.

The collection consists chiefly of correspondence and production files relating to the creation, production, and performance of their works for stage, screen, radio, and television, such as Leave It To Me and Kiss Me Kate (with music by Cole Porter), Boy Meets Girl, and My Three Angels. Correspondence (with twentieth century authors, playwrights, musicians, political figures, and actors) includes: George Abbott, Jean Arthur, Bennett Cerf, Katharine Cornell, Jo Davidson, George and Ira Gershwin, Alec Guinness, W. Averell Harriman, Lilli Lehmann, Mary Martin, Laurence Olivier, Mary Pickford, Cole Porter, Regina Resnick, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert E. Sherwood, Lincoln Steffens, Kurt Weill, Rebecca West, and Thornton Wilder. There is also correspondence concerning Bella Spewack's work with the New York Girls' Scholarship, UNRA, and the Sports Center of Israel. In addition to the production files, there are manuscripts and typescript drafts for novels, short stories, and articles by the Spewacks.

Among the correspondents are Aleksandr Benois, Mikhail Larionov, Georgiĭ Lukomskiĭ and Saveliĭ Sorin. There are many manuscripts by Lissim himself including the tests for a number of lectures and speeches, sections of his memoirs and essays on aesthectics. The documents include passports documenting his emigration from Russia to France and the United States, and several awards and certificates. There are many photographs of Lissim as well as dozens of photographic reproductions of his work, uncluding Lenox and Sèvres porcelain, textile designs, silver work and graphic arts. There are subjecxt files relating to two books for which he did the illustrations, and there are many folders of clippings documenting his career.

Letters to Cyril Clemens containing comments on his work and writings as well as that of other American writers. There are also four letters of Gladys Brooks (Mrs Van Wyck), Brooks' passport dated 1951, and one page of a holograph manuscript essay on Theodore Dreiser.

The collection includes the original manuscript of "Surrender on Demand", Mr. Fry's account of his wartime experiences, which was later rewritten for young readers as "Assignment Rescue" (New York, Four Winds Press, 1968). Among the correspondents represented in the collection are Marc Chagall, Jacques Lipchitz, Roger Baldwin, Norman Thomas, J. Edgar Hoover, and Herman Wouk. In addition to the material relating to the Emergency Relief Committee (later known as the International Rescue Committee), the collection includes correspondence and papers concerning Fry's work as a writer on foreign affairs as well as copies of his books.

All the correspondence dates from 1919 to 1969. Much of it concerns Vinter's scientific work dealing with the chemical analysis of milk. The manuscripts are primarily by Viktor Vinter himself, and include a number of articles he published in Czech, German, Finnish and American scientific journals. There are several diaries, notebooks and scrapbooks relating to his scientific endeavors. Among the documents are medical statements concerning his World War I injury, passports, and two folders relating to patents. The photographs are chiefly of the Vinter family. The printed materials include journals containing articles by Vinter.
