Letters, manuscripts, printed ephemera and photoreproductions collected by Saffron. The collection reflects Dr. Saffron's two avocations: book collecting and the history of medicine. Of particular importance are three reels of microfilms of Hunterian manuscripts at the University of Glasgow Library. William Hunter (1718-1783) was a Scottish physician. In addition, there is an autograph signed manuscript by John Martyn titled "To the Author of the Grubstreet Journal" 1731-32; letters published in "The Grub-Street Journal" concerning Richard Bentley's edition of Milton; a letter from Stephen Phillips to [Sir Sidney Colvin]; and poetry of Emily Winthrop Miles

Much of the correspondence concerns his American teaching and lecture engagements, primarily at the University of Louisville. There are also letters from his colleagues in France, including Françoise Van Rossum-Guyon, with a copy of her Introduction to an edition of Balzac's LE PÈRE GORIOT with Butor's critical letter for the publisher. There are critical and biographical manuscripts about Butor, and several printed works, each inscribed with a note by its author.

The collection includes 52 photographs and a map that were part of the Cambodia Witness Exhibit (1983). It also includes the exhibit brochure, catalog list, and a file on the exhibit from its coordinator, Joan Libby. The photographs were taken by David Hawk during two trips to Cambodia in March 1981 and April 1982. The exhibit includes images of the prison at Tuol Sleng, prisoners (from existing files), survivors, mass graves, and the destruction of temples and churches. The exhibit was curated by Joan Libby for Amnesty International (USA)
