The China Study Group on Environmental Issues (also referred to as the Women's China Study Group) was formed in 1975 to study and visit China. The organization consisted of women only and had groups in New York, Boston, Tennessee, California and likely in Washington. From October 14 to November 17, 1977, 19 women traveled to China, at the invitation of the Chinese Society of Architects. They visited Canton (Guangzhou), Kweilin (Guilin), Peking (Beijing), Sian (Xian), Luoyang, Nanking (Nanjing), Wuxi, Hongchou (Hangzhou), and Shanghai. After their return they wrote articles, presented slides and lectured on what they had studied on their trip. In 1980, a second group of 15 women were invited again by the Chinese Society of Architects, who paid for all the costs of travel within China. The CSG continued to meet until around 1981.
