The Makino Mamoru Collection on the History of East Asian Film, 1863-2015, bulk 1920s-1990s

This subseries includes scenarios from Ichikawa's renowned filmBiruma no tategoto/ビルマの竪琴/The Burmese Harp.Some of the scenarios in this subseries were not directed or written by Ichikawa but were put with them by Makino. Makino's organization has been maintained.

This subseries includes articles about the documentary filmmaker Kamei Fumio's works (many clipped and pasted into 8 scrapbooks), his obituary, a cut list, and fliers and programs for his films, including his 1939 filmTatakau heitai/戦う兵隊/Fighting Soldiers.Some materials related to Kamei's cameraman Miki Shigeru can be found here, although a scrapbook and other materials related to Miki are located in Series III: Film-related Individuals' Files, and not in the Directors Files. Kamei's files include some scenarios for his films, such asFujisan/富士山, Minna ikinakereba naranai/みんな生きなければならない,andTatakau heitai/戦う兵隊.

This subseries mostly contains fliers and programs for some of Kurosawa Akira's films. There are also newspaper article obituaries and special issues of magazines published about Kurosawa soon after his death.

This subseries contains a scrapbook and flier for the 1948 film,Hachinosu no kodomotachi/蜂の巣の子供たち/Children of the Beehive.

This subseries contains photocopied articles from magazines, production company newsletters, and research materials relating to the film,Tsuchi/土/Earth,directed by Uchida (1939) and based on the 1910 novel by Nagatsuka Takashi. Also related to this film, are 6 scrapbooks created by Makino that contain original photographs and photocopied scenarios pasted together in a storyboard type format (called "Storyboard type scrapbooks"). Iijima was a scholar of French literature and film, but also a film critic and screenwriter. The subseries contains books written by Iijima, some signed to Makino, as well as books in Iijima's collection.

This subseries contains 24 scrapbooks of photocopied articles of Imamura Taihei writings, some in the journal,Eigakai/映画界, Kinema junpō/キネマ旬報and other research materials.

This subseries contains several books written by the prominent film critic Iwasaki Akira, as well as a manuscript, his list of works, a scrapbook of materials related to Iwasaki and fliers for discussions of Prokino (Proletarian Film League of Japan), for which he was the group's chairman.

The Kishi Matsuo scrapbooks contain materials related to Prokino (The Proletarian Film League of Japan). Kishi was a film critic and leader of the left-wing film movement in the 1920s. The 29 scrapbooks created by Kishi in this section contain many of his critical writings. There are also 8 books written by Kishi in this section, 3 of which are autographed.

Kikuchi was cameraman for Miki Shigeru and for Kamei Fumio. He worked on the documentary film,The Effects of the Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki(shot in 1945 finished in 1946) with Miki as second camera assistant. He worked for Miki Film Company in 1946. Kume Masao materials were purchased at auction by Makino. Kume was a novelist and classmate of Akutagawa Ryūnosuke/芥川龍之介 and Kikuchi Kan/菊池寛. This subseries includes his Collection of Letters, newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets. Includes production company notices (invitations to studio events), and materials related to the Greater Japan Film Association/Dai Nippon Eiga Kyōkai/大日本映画協会.

The items include Miki Shigeru's press passes from the Navy and Army (1939-1941) as well as Home Ministry certificates, film production company termination and hiring certificates with monthly salaries (Tōhō, Nippon Eigasha), and correspondence (letters and postcards to Miki). The subseries also includes materials from his post-war film production company, Miki Film Company/Miki Eigasha/三木映画社, including published screenplays (scenarios) for documentary, social education, short film (PR eiga/PR映画), and propaganda films, as well as company documents mainly related to tax payments. Miki's hospital admission records and bills from 1977 are also included here. There are also Makino's manuscripts, fliers, and exhibition related material for the 2001 event on Miki held at The Museum of Art, Kōchi. These materials contain a filmography and biographical information.

There May be scrapbooks of photocopied articles related to particular individuals, including Fumikura Heizaburō/文倉平三郎, Hirai Teruaki/平井輝章, Kajita Akira/梶田章, Shibata Katsu/柴田勝 (cameraman, film historian), Tsukada Yoshinobu/塚田嘉信 (film historian, collector), Umemura Shisei/梅村紫声(benshi,) and original materials by Yamaguchi Seiichi/山口静一 (translator). Yamaguchi's include 161 Shōchiku Eiga film cuts. Additional materials can be found in Subseries X.1: Pre-War and Wartime Magazines, Film-related. This subseries contains publications ofNippon Katsudō Shashin (Nikkatsu)/日本活動写真/Japan Cinematograph Company,including confidential documents, newsletters, postcards, magazines and a name list of Nikkatsu workers from the 1930s. This subseries contains post-war magazines published by Tōei Kabushikigaisha/東映株式会社 (Tōei) or about Tōei films, programs, newspapers, and confidential papers. There are also files related to Daiei Kabushikigaisha/大映株式会社, including correspondence circa 1946.

This subseries contains publications of the film production company Tōhō Eiga Kabushikigaisha/東宝映画株式会社 later Tōhō Kabushikigaisha/東宝株式会社, 1943) (Tōhō) and documents from the studios P.C.L. (an abbreviation of Photo Chemical Laboratories, (December 1933 -- 1937) and J.O. Studio (J.O. スタジオ, December 1934 -- 1937) that merged to form Tōhō Eiga Kabushikigaisha in August of 1937. Tōhō Eiga Kabushikigaisha then merged with Takarazuka/Tokyo Takarazuka Gekijō/東京宝塚劇場 in December 1943. These publications include union magazines and company newsletters as well as various internal departmental documents, mainly accounting documents, with salary and personnel records, business (distribution) reports, meeting notes, and studio plans, and company histories.

It also contains a book written by the founder of Tōhō, Kobayashi Ichizō/小林一三 and diaries written by the head of Marketing, Iwamoto Ichirō/岩下一郎. Of note are postcard notices, letters, and informational mailings from P.C.L. that were addressed to playwright and novelist Kume Masao/久米正雄. Still photographs from P.C.L films by the comedian Enomoto Ken'ichi/榎本健一 or "Enoken" can be found in Subseries XVII.1: Photos and Posters: Albums, Bromides and Stills. Also included in this Series are business surveys for film premieres during the years of government control of film, 1942-1944. This subseries also contains a Tōhō training manual,Chōsa shiryō/調査資料 no.4,which was a translation of Paul Rotha's book (translated into Japanese),Bunka eigaron/文化映画論.For more on Rotha, see Subseries VI.7: Subject Files: Documentary Film Materials. The Subseries retains the general grouping of materials found in the Makino files, although not in the order Makino has written about in "Tōhō eiga bunken shiryō mokuroku (Senzen-hen) to kaidai," Kawasaki-shi Shimin Myūjiamu kiyō 8 (1996):79-124. Here, they are ordered by subject in the scope content notes and in alphabetical order within each subject in the description section as follows: P.C.L. materials, accounting documents, correspondence, diaries, General Affairs, labor unions (labor dispute materials), magazines, magazines (film technique), newsletters, miscellaneous company documents, and Tōhō company histories (in chronological order). This subseries contains some leaflets of bunka eiga (culture films) produced by Tōhō, but it does not contain the following Tōhō related materials for the most part: programs, handbills/fliers, scenarios, photographs or posters. These items can be found in other parts of the Makino collection.

This Subseries contains materials related to several independent film companies. It includes documents from Ekuransha/エクラン社 film company and has post-war distribution materials from the independent film company, Art Theatre Guild/Nihon Āto Shiatā Girudo/日本アート・シアター・ギルド (ATG), which turned from distribution to production in the late 1960s. It also has documents from Shinsei Eiga/新星映画 and film school rules of Tōa Kinema/東亜キネマ.

Subseries V.1 contains scenarios related to the screenwriter and director Ikeda Tadao that were compiled by him and supplemented by Makino. The scenarios in this subseries are arranged in alphabetical order by Title. Many of the scenarios were written by Ikeda but this subseries also includes scenarios and other related materials written by other authors as indicated. It also includes scenarios that contain a label that indicates it belonged to Ikeda but May have been found with the Shōchiku Film Production Company Files (satsueijo kanren). Ikeda wrote many of these scenarios. For these, Shōchiku is noted in the scope content notes. It also includes censored scenarios written by Ikeda (seeSuradangu biyondo Bengaru/スラダング ビヨンド ベンガル).Scenarios written by Ikeda Tadao can also be found in Subseries V.2: Scenarios: Inoue Kintarō Materials. Subseries V.2 contains scenarios related to the director Inoue Kintarō (1901-1954) that were compiled by him and supplemented by Makino. The scenarios in this subseries are arranged in alphabetical order by Title. Many of these scenarios were written by Inoue but this subseries includes scenarios written by other authors as indicated. According to Makino, Inoue was a mentor for Ozu Yasujirō and Yamanaka Sadao and the Ozu scenarios in the Makino Collection were originally owned by Inoue Kintarō. The section also includes some unknown authors. Inoue wrote some scenarios under the penname Akishino Sanjirō/秋篠珊次郎 as well as possibly Kurii Jōtarō/栗井饒太郎, indicated in the scope content notes when known. This subseries also contains the receipt and correspondence related to Makino's purchase of the Inoue materials in 1990.

This subseries contains scenarios that were written or directed by screenwriters and directors other than Ikeda Tadao or Inoue Kintarō. They are in alphabetical order by film Title. The subseries also contains notes on the screenwriter and director where indicated. In addition to scenarios there are also some set diagrams, storyboards, photographs, and drawings for particular films, indicated in the scope contents notes. The other Screenwriters/Directors set of scenarios includesKiyamachi Sanjō/木屋町三条,written by Kajiwara Kinpachi/梶原金八. The original story was by Yamanaka Sadao/山中貞雄 and this is his last and unfinished scenario. As for the scenario entitled,Watashi wa akachan/私は赤ちゃんdirected by Ichikawa Kon, this May have been written by his partner Wada Natto or by Ichikawa himself. There are two Kurosawa Akira scenarios in this subseries as well. There is another where Kurosawa was the scriptwriter. That one is filed with the scenarios from Nikkatsu (Kieta chūtai/消えた中隊of the 1955 film). This set also originally included some scenarios found with Shōchiku scenarios that were written by Ikeda Tadao/池田忠雄. They have been moved to be with the Ikeda Tadao Materials in Subseries V.1: Scenarios: Ikeda Tadao Materials.

This subseries contains scenarios censored by the government and are stamped as such or were found together with censored scenarios but are not stamped (7 of these). We have kept these together with the stamped censored scenarios rather than moving them to other parts of the collection. Several publications focus on the history of manga eiga/漫画映画 (manga animated films) as well as the animation film studio, Tōei Doga (東映動画株式会社, Tōei Dōga Kabushikigaisha/Toei Animation Co. Ltd., which was founded in 1948. The subseries also has newsletters by the Japan Society for Animation Studies (JSAS).

There are programs from Japanese films as well as programs and fliers for Walt Disney animated films. In addition, there are animation film festival materials and specifically fliers from the Tokyo International Anime Fair 21 (Heisei 14 (2002), with some materials from the Anime Fair held in 2003 and 2004.

This subseries contains books about art, modernism, and philosophy, including some original issues ofShin geijutsuron shisutemu/新芸術論システム,which were originally published in 1930 in 20 volumes and reprinted by Yumani Shobō in 1991 with commentary by Makino. This subseries covers educational materials that incorporate audio and visual presentation of the material. It contains film catalogs, and publications of the Japan Film Education Society (Nihon Eiga Kyōiku Kyōkai/日本映画教育協会) concerning audiovisual education.

It also contains magazines that focus on audio-visual education, including almost a full run ofShichōkaku kyōiku/視聴覚教育/The Audio-Visual Education(1954-08/2001-10). This subseries contains pre-war publications by the Ministry of Home Affairs Police Bureau (Naimushō Keihokyoku/内務省警保局), including originals of the film censorship magazine,Eiga ken'etsu jihō/映画検閲時報,as well as publications by the Ministry of Education Police Bureau (Monbushō Keihokyoku/文部省警保局) and post-war publications by the Motion Picture Code of Ethics Committee (Nippon Eiga Rengōkai Eiga Rinri Kitei Kanribu/日本映画連合会映画倫理規定管理部), later known as Eirin/映倫 (Film Classification and Rating Committee).

Also included in this subseries are monographs related to the 1911 French crime filmZigomar (Jigoma/ジゴマ).Scrapbooks and binders prepared by Makino of photocopied articles and book chapters, and film censorship related documents are in folders, in the binder order.

Manuscripts for books about censorship by Makino are also contained here. There are also local police and censorship related items from Osaka and Shizuoka. This subseries contains materials related to documentary film, often referred to as culture films (bunka eiga/文化映画) or PR (public relations) films in the pre-war andkiroku eiga/記録映画 in the post-war.

This subseries has bulletins, newsletters, magazines, directories and the monthly journalKiroku eigaof The Association of Education Filmmakers (Kyōiku Eiga Sakka Kyōkai/教育映画作家協会), and materials from The Association after it changed its name in December 1960 to The Association of Documentary Filmmakers (Kiroku Eiga Sakka Kyōkai/記録映画作家協会). The subseries also contains experimental film fliers and programs as well as movie theater handbills and bulletins for wartime news films/news reels from Nippon Eigasha (Nichi-ei)/Japan Film Company/日本映画社, and Asahi News. The subseries also contains wartime scenarios for documentary films from Fuji Sutajio, Nippon Eigasha/日本映画社 as well as scenarios for short films(tanpen eiga/短編映画) from these companies. There are documentary film movement materials written in the hand of writer, Atsugi Taka/厚木たか (1907-1998). Several translations by Atsugi Taka of Paul Rotha's book, Documentary Film,Bunka Eiga ron/文化映画論,as well as the original English edition of Rotha's book are also included in this subseries. The 1976 edition is autographed by Atsugi Taka for Makino.

This subseries contains materials from film organizations, associations, or guilds. The materials in this series are arranged in chronological order, with undated materials coming at the front. The subseries includes publications and documents from the Directors Guild of Japan (Nihon Eiga Kantoku Kyōkai/日本映画監督協会), the Federation of Japanese Films Industry or Eidanren (Shadan Hōjin Eiga Sangyō Shinkōkai/社団法人映画産業振興会), the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan or Eiren (Shadan Hōjin Nihon Eiga Seisakusha Renmei Jimukyoku/社団法人日本映画製作社連盟事務局), and Nihon Eiga Fukkō Kaigi/日本映画復興会議.

It includes correspondence from the Directors Guild to novelist and playwright Kume Masao/久米正雄, newsletters, fliers, Directors Guild prospectuses, programs, organ journals, and various company reports. Folder 1 contains Tokyo Match Group Co., Ltd. handwritten documents for location scouting and budget plans for the documentary film,Yunnan Road/ユンナンロード(1980). Folder 2 contains documents and photographs for the making of the films,Nenokuni/根の国andTaihei/太平(1981). Folder 3 contains a scrapbook of newspaper clippings for the film,Asobiba no nai kodomotachi/遊び場のない子供たち(1965 May -- June), film by Kikuchi Shū/菊地周. Folder 4 contains a data book,Amami Ōshima no gaikyō/奄美大島の概況(1956). Folder 5 is a National Film Center report on film production in Indonesia during the Japanese Occupation (2002).

Many of the textbooks in this series were collected by and written by film historian Komatsu Hiroshi/小松浩. The subseries contains documents for textbooks, manuals for film equipment, handwritten manuscripts and lecture transcripts by Komatsu Hiroshi, as well as photographs related to camera technique and textbooks. This subseries contains popular Japanese music songbooks that cover the following areas: national anthems, theme songs, collections of popular songs, school songs and dormitory songs, a Girl Scout songbook, jazz music, shamisen music songs, songs from an annual singing contest held on New Year's Eve, folk songs, military songs, parodies, ballads, bawdy songs, youthful songs, and enka (traditional-style Japanese popular ballads).

The subseries also contain English language songbooks from Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club, filed at the end. Although this subseries covers Occupation period materials and the Allied Occupation of Japan lasted from 1945-1952 there are also items from the latter part of the 1950s and early 1960s in this subseries. This subseries contains entertainment newspapers and labor union newsletters during the period of the Allied Occupation of Japan, also referred to as GHQ period (General Headquarters) in Makino's Collection.

The subseries also contain fliers, pamphlets, programs, (handbills) of American film showings in movie theaters that were promoted by the Central Motion Picture Exchange (CMPE), est. November 1946 as an arm of the Civil Information and Education Section (CIE) of SCAP (Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers). This subseries contains materials related to the proletarian arts movement in Japan. It contains documents, fliers, scrapbooks, and magazines related to the left-wing film organization, Proletarian Film League of Japan/Nihon Puroretaria Eiga Dōmei/日本プロレタリア映画同盟 (or Prokino for short, 1929-1934). The first part of the subseries contains documents, fliers, programs, and manuscripts related to left-wing or proletarian film movements. Makino's commentary and manuscripts for reprint editions of the various left-wing magazines are also contained here as well as theater related pamphlets, fliers, and a scenario related to the left-wing theater group Zenshinza/前進座.

The second part contains originals and photocopies of proletarian magazines ordōjinshi/同人誌 related to Prokino and other left-wing movements in alphabetical order by title. More Prokino related material can be found in Subseries II.4: Critic Files: Kishi Matsuo/岸松雄, the main Kishi Matsuo collection in this archive. There are 29 Kishi related scrapbooks in that subseries with clippings and articles related to Prokino.

This subseries contains photocopies of books and articles written by the psychologist Matsumoto Matatarō/松本亦太郎 (1865-1943) who introduced experimental psychology methods from America and Germany to Japanese universities. Within the Makino Collection, there are 7 archival document boxes containing 115 folders of pre-war and a few post-war coterie magazines (dōjinshi/同人誌) or self-published journals (today'sfanzines)from student clubs at universities and other film and fan clubs. These publications were largely works by amateurs and cannot be found in libraries or archives in Japan. Some of the pre-WWII coterie magazines in the Makino Collection were formerly owned by Kishi Matsuo/岸松雄 the film critic, director, and screenwriter who was also a leader of the proletarian film movement in the 1920s. The rest were collected by Makino to supplement Kishi Matsuo's collection. There are 89 titles with a total number of 274 issues of coterie magazines in the Collection.

This subseries contains publications related to the U.S. military base controversies (anti-US military bases), anti-nuclear war and peace movements in Japan, anti-nuclear armaments, defense and weapon systems, national secrets protection and law, symposium materials, and library catalogs on these subjects. There are peace-promoting newspapers and newspaper clippings from the 1980s publications of the United Nations, and Self Defense Forces (SDF).

There are Japanese journals published in Korea/Chosen during the Occupation of Korea, as well as Japanese journals published in Japan with articles about Korean film, TV series, and culture. They include journals covering the experience of resident Koreans in Japan, as well as materials about Korean protest demonstrations. There are also postcards and sheet music to the theme song of the famous Korean film,Arirang/아리랑(1926) and Korean film programs and fliers. There are Korean journals related to film, as well as exhibition and retrospective catalogs for Korean film held in Japan. This series includes documentary film proposals and documents concerning Japanese documentary films aboutzainichi chōsenjin/在日朝鮮人 (Korean residents in Japan).

This subseries contains materials from and about the former colony of Manchuria, and Manchurian cinema related to the Japanese film production company Manshū Eiga Kyōkai/満州映画協会or Man'ei/満英 that was in the Japanese colony of Manchukuo in the 1930s and 1940s. These include distribution planning reports on small-gauge film (kogata eiga),and other research, with dates in Manchukuo calendar years (kōtoku/康徳). There are also Shanghai film production company magazines from the 1930s. There are special issues of magazines about Manchurian film, promotional fliers, and photocopies of magazine articles and tables of contents.

This subseries mostly includes books and promotional materials, but also a government document from the Japanese governor's office in Taiwan,Social Activities and Moving Pictures(1924), some still photos, and even a ticket stub from the film company, Nihon Katsudō Shashin Kabushikigaisha/日本活動写真株式会社 (1934).

This subseries contains scripts and other materials that focus on multiple Asian countries.

This subseries contains materials related to Charlie Chaplin and his films. It has original editions of books by and about Chaplin including one that Makino wrote was an inspiration to his Collection,My Trip Abroad(1922). It also contains two books:Chaplin: Vom grossen schönen Schweigen: Arbeit und Leben des Charles Spencer Chaplin(original German book written by Friedrich Luft, 1957) and its Japanese translationChappurin: Idai na, utsukushii chinmoku/チャップリン: 偉大な、美しい沈黙(translated by Koshibe Noboru/越部暹, 1971). The Chaplin materials contain two books signed by the author, Eto Fumio, to Makino. For more monographs about and by Charlie Chaplin that are part of the Makino Collection, but not located in the archive, please search the Columbia University Libraries online catalog.

The Charlie Chaplin materials also contain items related to Chaplin's long term Japanese assistant Kōno Toraichi/高野虎市, including scrapbooks. It also contains items from a large file (large in size not quantity) of Chaplin materials. Organized in alphabetical order by subject, the large file items include: a Chaplinsugorokuposter game from 1922 a movie theater gift poster from the film, programs and fliers for Chaplin films shown in Japan, several popular magazines special issues on Chaplin, bank, post office, and film study group fliers, a filmography, newspaper clippings, a still photograph of Chaplin, and items from a Chaplin film convention.

This section contains 24 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings as well as photocopied articles from pre-war film magazines. It also contains several pages of print advertising for Western Cinema, excerpted from a number of unknown magazines. Some are scrapbooks of the table of contents from magazines likeEiga hyōron/映画評論andKatsudō kurabu/活動倶楽部,but they also include photocopies of the articles from these magazines and others likeMusashino/武蔵野.

There are also scrapbooks on certain topics including censorship, war, and Western films (mainly in theShin eiga/新映画 columns). These scrapbooks were purchased by Makino from old bookstores and their creator is unknown. This subseries contains newsletters and related documents from the Japan Society of Image Arts and Sciences (JASIAS)/Nihon Eizō Gakkai/日本映像学会, an academic organization established in September 1974 to promote the study of image arts and image sciences. These items were acquired at various film festivals.

This subseries contains photo albums and individual commercial photographic portraits (stills or bromides (buromaido/ブロマイド orpuromaido/プロマイド) organized in alphabetical order by the title of the film depicted or the name of the owner of the album or the main person depicted when the owner is unknown. Albums include those owned by actor Matsui Suisei/松井彗声 and actress Kurishima Sumiko/栗島すみ子 (which mainly contains portraits of Kurishima, but also has two group photos with Charlie Chaplin) and an album with original photographs from the wartime Japanese-German film collaboration,Atarashiki tsuchi/新しき土/New Earth(1937) directed by Arnold Fanck and Itami Mansaku, and taken by Japanese staff (about 500 photos).

Screenwriter Ikeda Tadao/池田忠雄's albums contain several portraits of Director Ozu Yasujirō/小津安二郎 (see Subseries V.1: Scenarios: Ikeda Tadao Materials for materials owned by Ikeda). Ikeda's album also has personal photos. There are several albums related to the post-war film,Himeyuri no tō/ひめゆりの塔directed by Imai Tadashi 今井正, including Shimazu Shōichi/島津昇一's location hunting album and Art Director Kubo Kazuo's photos taken by location staff of the Tōei Film Studio. This subseries also contains an album of stills from Director Makino Shōzō/牧野省三's 1921 filmJitsuroku Chūshingura/実録忠臣蔵with actor Onoe Matsunosuke/尾上松之助. See Subseries XVII.6: Photos and Posters: Glass Negatives for glass negatives from this film by Makino Shōzō. This subseries also contains still photographs from P.C.L. films by the comedian Enomoto Ken'ichi/榎本健一(known by the nickname, Enoken) that were made during the 1930s. It also has some film technology photographs, including the first screen processing machine imported into Japan. Many of these are autographed to Kume Masao/久米正雄, who appears in the photographs.

This subseries contains still photographs of pre-war news films. Topics include theHindenburg(1937), Nanjing, Beijing, and Home front stills (women). For articles on the topic of news films, see Subseries VI.7: Subject Files: Documentary Film Materials.

Makino received the albums from the Miki family after Miki Shigeru passed. Many of the photos in the albums were taken by Miki for his book with the folklorist Yanagita Kunio/柳田國男,Yukiguni no minzoku/雪國の民俗(1944). Makino's copies of this book can be found by searching the Columbia University Libraries online catalog. Photo albums, photographs, and negatives related to Uchida Tomu's film, Tsuchi both on location and a later research visit by Makino. Photographs include Makino's 1983 visit to cameraman Midorikawa Michio/碧川道夫, and to the home and grave of Tsuchi's author, Nagatsuka Takashi/長塚節 in Ibaraki prefecture, photographs of Makino's visit to meet with Tsuchi's actress Kazami Akiko/風見章子, black and white photographs taken on location for the film, and negatives.
