Description

Scope and Content

Kitchen Sink Press was a comic book publisher founded by Denis Kitchen in 1969. The company closed in 1999. The press was known for publishing underground comics and reprints of classic comic strips. The records include contracts, correspondence, editorial files, financial records, proofs, and other materials. This collection is still being processed; currently, only the correspondence is available for research.

Series I: Correspondence, 1965-2013

Denis Kitchen kept two sets of correspondence files, primary correspondence and secondary correspondence, based upon the importance of the correspondence file to his business. This being the case, there may be files related to a single person in both sets of correspondence files.

The correspondence files function as correspondence, subject, and business files, and contain not only correspondence but also biographical information, contracts, copyright information, ephemera, , notes on telephone conversations, obituaries, payment information, printed materials, proposals, and royalty statements. Many files also include examples of artwork represented by published comics, copies of both published and unpublished work, and items drawn on the pages of correspondence.

Subseries I.1: Primary Correspondence, 1969-2009

This subseries contains correspondence files that were considered vital to the business of Kitchen Sink Press, and they were originally stored in a fireproof cabinet. The files are arranged alphabetically.

Subseries I.2: Secondary Correspondence, 1965-2013

This subseries contains correspondence files that were less important to the business of Kitchen Sink Press than those filed in primary correspondence. These files are arranged alphabetically.
