Description

Summary

Manuscript and typescript notes of David Churchill Humphrey. In the course of conducting research for his book From King's College to Columbia, 1746-1800 (N.Y., Columbia University Press, 1976), Humphrey gathered biographical data on students who attended King's College, 1754-1776, and its successor after the American Revolution, Columbia College, 1784-1792. Included is a data sheet for each individual with his related notes from a variety of primary and secondary sources. In some cases there are typescript copies of contemporary letters referring to the individual students. Humphrey includes graduates of both the liberal arts and the medical faculties, non-graduates, and several individuals thought to have attended King's College or Columbia College for whom he has cited evidence to the contrary.
