Description

Scope and Content

Correspondence, manuscripts, and printed material. The correspondence consists chiefly of letters between Duncan and Richard Chapman, during 1956 and 1957, when Duncan, an American, was working in advertising in England, and Chapman, an Englishman, was working in advertising in New York. These letters provide a perspective on daily life during the mid-1950s, including such topics as books, plays, current events, and customs of that period. Also included are letters between Duncan and his literary agent, Tony Mendez, and his publishers. There are manuscripts for Little Friends and Angels' Faces , as well as the manuscript for his autobiography Late Starter and numerous radio-scripts and essays; printed articles by Duncan; and copies of two of his books, The Same Language , Little Friends , and Short Cuts .
